It doesn't matter if "Vulgaria" was slammed as "garbage" recently. Its lead actor Chapman To was the one who had the last laugh when he received the Best Actor award for his performance in the movie.
As reported on HK Top Ten blog, on 4 March, the 19th Hong Kong Film Critic Society award finally held their awards presentation after announcing its winners earlier in February.
Meanwhile, "Motorway" won Best Picture, with Soi Cheang Pou Soi ("Motorway") and Dante Lam ("The Viral Factor") sharing the Best Director award.
Chapman To revealed that his intentions when he first produced the film was to support Joey Yung and Mag Lam, not to win an award for himself.
He said, "I used to want to an award very much and make literary drama like other people. I finally realised that everything should come sincerely from the heart. This time I also worked behind the scenes and I won an award, from now on I would service the film industry in peace."
However, no actress has been named Best Actress, as the critics society earlier decided that there were no solid roles for women in any of the Hong Kong films of 2012.
To this, Chapman To expressed, "I thought Elanne Kong Lam deserved to win Best Actress through "Love Lifting". Her performance was very touching, but she has been recognised through the Hong Kong Film Award nomination. Some said that she was a surprise, but I say she is the favourite!"
