Rumour has it that Donnie Yen has been offered to play the leading role in the sequel of the award-winning martial arts movie, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
According to Asianpopnews, "The Iceman Cometh 3D" actor has been offered HKD 50 million to play the lead alongside original star, Michelle Yeoh. The movie, that has been bought over by Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, will also be directed by "Black Swan" executive producer, David Thwaites.
It was also reported that Ang Lee is in talks to take on the producer role, after his initial refusal to direct the sequel.
When asked about the truth behind the rumour, Donnie admitted that he had indeed been invited to star in the sequel, stating that Harvey Weinstein had contacted him two months ago about the project.
However, when asked if he has agreed to participate in the sequel, Donnie stated, "I will definitely consider it. But there are two issues which are holding me back. Firstly, my schedule is very tight this year. Secondly, I'm pressured that I will not be able to exceed expectations since this is a classic."
The "Ip Man" actor was also tight-lipped about the rumour of his HKD 50 million fee, stating that his remuneration is a commercial secret.
If everything goes as planned, the filming is expected to commence in the middle of the year.
