It was revealed that controversial director Wong Jing is planning to purchase the rights to TVB's "War And Beauty" (2004) to make a movie version of the hit TV drama.
As reported on Popular Asians, the "Young And Dangerous: Reloaded" director stated that he was inspired to make a film adaptation of "War And Beauty" after seeing the success of mainland drama, "Legend Of Zhen Huan", which is from an almost similar genre and subject matter.
Wong Jing stated, "The mainland drama was shot very well and paid great attention to detail. I think there is potential to do even more with a script like "War And Beauty". Since I have a good relationship with TVB, I don't think there is a problem when I approach them about purchasing the rights."
He continued, "Mainland China has banned filming of any sort in the Forbidden City for the next several years, so there will be a shortage in such genre. Thankfully the ban only applies to television and not the big screen."
Starring Sheren Tang, Maggie Cheung, Charmaine Sheh and Gigi Lai, "War And Beauty" was TVB's 2004 hit TV drama that was set in the Forbidden City, in Qing Dynasty China in the late years of Emperor Jiaqing's rule. It focused on the power struggle between royal concubines who are trying to secure the Emperor's favour through manipulations, betrayal, corruption, and outright deceit.
Meanwhile, Wong Jing's last film, "Young And Dangerous: Reloaded" was not as successful as he has hoped it would be. Nonetheless, the director is still full of praises for his fresh cast, especially his new Chan Ho Nam – TVB actor, Him Law.
Brushing aside criticism towards Him Law, Wong Jing stated, "Ekin faced a lot of criticism when we first cast him as Chan Ho Nam in the original "Young And Dangerous" film because people didn't feel like he was right for the role. In the end, he carried out the role of big brother very well. Him's personality is a very good fit for this industry. He's more open-minded and assertive than Ekin, who was like a kid that needed to be pushed and motivated."
