Despite the collaboration between TV King Wayne Lai and producer Lee Tim Sing, TVB drama "Bullet Brain" has not been getting more ratings than expected, and was even accused of plagiarising another television drama, Dicky Cheung's "Mr. Winner".

Jayne Stars website reported that TVB viewers believed that Ko Tai Hei a.k.a Detective Columbo, the lead character who became an investigation genius after suffering from a bullet in his head, may have plagiarised the 2002 drama which features Dicky Cheung's character, the simpleton Fong Tin Miu, who turned smarter and became good at solving crimes after having a fever.

Like Wayne's Detective Columbo, Fong Tin Miu was also ruthless and cruel after gaining intelligence.

When asked regarding the similarity between "Bullet Brain" and "Mr. Winner", TVB producer Lee Tim Shing denied the plagiarism claims, saying, "I don't know because I've never seen the latter."

Meanwhile, the series has also fallen flat with audiences, who criticised the slow-moving, repetitious plot and low production values. Despite pulling in 28 points in its premiere episode, more and more viewers gave up on the drama and caused the ratings in its initial week to only average at 26 points.

Set in 1960s Hong Kong, "Bullet Brain" revolves around Wayne's character, Ko Tai Hei, who turns from a kind simpleton to an overnight genius after his brain cells evolved when a bullet hit his head. However, the new Detective Columbo Ko not only became smarter, he also became more cunning and cold-hearted, resorting to unscrupulous means to prove his influence.

The series also stars Edwin Siu, Sire Ma, Ngo Ka Nin, Natalie Tong, Joe Junior, Brian Burrell, Lau Dan, and Corinna Chamberlain.
