The international film star was slammed for attending a banquet organised for the Malaysian Prime Minister

After making an appearance at a dinner event held for the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, last Saturday, actress Michelle Yeoh suffered massive backlash from her fellow citizens who labelled her a "traitor" for campaigning for the ruling party, Barisan Nasional (BN), in the upcoming Malaysia general election on May 3.

Michelle's decision to attend the banquet was previously met with fierce objection from the supporters of the opposition party, People's Alliance (PA), who said that it was inappropriate for her to rally for a political party, quoting her federal title "Datuk Seri" as reason.

The international film star further incurred the wrath of the PA supporters when she showed her support for the BN by singing praises of the Prime Minister, saying, "Datuk Seri Najib Razak is Malaysia's best Prime Minister."

Following her comments made during the event, Michelle received widespread criticism from the public for not realising how "corrupted" the ruling party is and how the government has "suppressed democracy" over the years.

The supporters of the opposition party said, "Can't she see that the country is in dire straits? That one sentence is enough to ruin her image."

Michelle's manager could not be reached for comment at press time.

In other related news, Malaysian singer Eric Moo has also been condemned for showing up at a concert believed to be related to the BN. In response to that, members of the public threatened to boycott his albums.
