The producer of the famous Hong Kong film Farewell My Concubine held a special screening event of the movie to mark the Leslie’s 10th death anniversary
A special screening event of one of Leslie Cheung’s most famous movie Farewell My Concubine was held to mark the 10th death anniversary of the late Hong Kong superstar.
A total of three screening sessions were held and each session was attended by 1,000 moviegoers. The morning session was open to the public free of charge, while tickets were sold for the remaining two sessions in the evening. All proceeds from the ticket sales were then donated to the Children Cancer Foundation.
The screening session held on April 1 – the actual death anniversary of Leslie – also happened to mark the 20th anniversary of Farewell My Concubine.
At the screening session, the film’s producer Hsu Feng praised Leslie and said that the late actor is unique in his own ways and no one can ever replace him.
Hsu Feng recalled that Leslie initially rejected his invitation to star in the film because his manager said that he was a singer, not an actor.
However, Hsu Feng thought that Leslie suited the role of Cheng Dieyi best and the actor eventually took up the role after the producer’s continuous persuasion.
Farewell My Concubine won the Golden Palm award, the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival, in 1993 and Leslie has since gained international fame as a film star.
Meanwhile, Hsu Feng has revealed plans of bringing the special screening event to Taipei in September.
