In a harmless Weibo message that was written on 4 April, Jackie Chan revealed his plan of donating four Hui-style ancient buildings (a major Chinese architectural style from ancient times, with refined homes, ancestral halls and memorial archways as its quintessence) that he bought 20 years ago to the Singapore University of Technology and Design.

However, to his surprise, the message led to a heated discussion in China, with many netizens thinking that he has tarnished his patriotic image.

CRI website reported that on 9 April, the actor turned to his Weibo again, and wrote to his 15.66 million followers, "Jackie Chan didn't do anything illegal, and I certainly won't do anything bad towards my country."

The actor added, "I never imagined that sharing my thoughts about donating historic buildings would cause such a big stir. I need to find an opportunity to sit down and explain all the details."

The reply it seems, have appeased most of his followers, who then showed support, saying that they will fully support his donation to Singapore if it's not against the law.

Meanwhile, Wang Henglai, director of the municipal Cultural Commission of Huangshan City, known for its Hui-style ancient buildings, have expressed their wish to display Chan's ancient buildings, saying, "We are willing to provide the best place, most experienced craftsmen and funding to welcome those ancient buildings home."
