Chinese model and actress Angelababy is finally making her television debut, through an adaptation of Tong Hua's novel, "A Song In The Clouds".
According to Jayne Stars, with the success of Tong Hua's "Bu Bu Jing Xin", the writer's other works have been grabbed by various producers, and "A Song In The Clouds" was one of the adaptations in the works.
To be produced and written by controversial producer Yu Zheng, Angelababy will star as the female lead, Yunge, who is caught in a love triangle with Prince Liu Fuling (played by Lu Yi) and Meng Jue (Du Chun).
It is the second instalment in Tong Hua's currently unfinished love trilogy during the Great Han Dynasty, and also follows the events of the first instalment, "Ballad Of The Desert".
When asked if film actress Angelababy, who has never starred in any television dramas since her acting debut, will be able to lead the whole drama, Yu Zheng reassured, "Our team had done market research and found that Angelababy is very popular among young audiences."
Known for his tendency to make changes from the original, as seen in his earlier adaptation of Jin Yong's "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer", (re-titled "Swordsman"), the producer admitted that they have made several alterations, saying, "We deleted a lot of the historical incidents. There weren't that many historical incidents in the original work anyway. What the audience wants to see is love."
"A Song In The Clouds" will air next summer.
