Despite the controversial Miss Hong Kong Pageant last year, TVB has recently announced that they will continue to implement last year's 'one person one vote' system despite its flaws.

Popular Asians reported that at the press conference for 2013 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, TVB executive Wai Sai Fai stated that they have decided to re-implement the reality-show format, allowing viewers to cast live votes for their favourite contestants.

Last year, the pageant event was slammed for the lack of preparations for their live votes system, resulting in millions of voters overloading and crashing TVB's online servers.

The incident also forced TVB to let their judging panel select the winner, who in turn crowned the 24-year-old Vancouver-born Carat Cheung. However, the result was highly contested by many, who have crowned runner-up Tracy Chu in informal online polls.

Meanwhile, the company revealed that they have completed recruitment overseas and has planned to accept a total of 20 contestants, but may consider opening up additional spots depending on the quality of the applicants.

The applications will be open until 2 June and eligible candidates will take part in pageant activities in eight foreign cities, including Paris, Beijing, Taipei, Istanbul, Bangkok, and Seoul.

The 2013 Miss Hong Kong Pageant's semi-finals will take place on 24 August while the finals will be aired live on 1 September.
