It was reported that the Hong Kong High Court has rejected TVB's bid for a judicial review of government plan of issuing new licences for free-to-air television stations.
As reported on groove Asia, on 13 May, High Court judge, Thomas Au ruled that the court should not intervene in the deliberation as the government had not made a decision on whether to grant new licences or not.
Earlier in January, TVB filed a request to the Hong Kong High Court, and stated that the Communications Authority made an "unlawful" recommendation in July of last year when it supported licence applications from three companies – City Telcom, Fantastic Teevision and HK Television Entertainment Company.
The renowned broadcasting company appealed for the court to stop the Chief Executive in Council from granting licences to the potential TVB competitors, but was met with a negative answer last Monday.
When asked about the rulings, a representative of TVB expressed that they are really frustrated by the court's decision and will be lodging an appeal.
Meanwhile, ATV also made a similar request but was also rejected by the court.
