Chinese producer Yu Zheng of "Palace" fame is considering to cast "Tai Chi Zero"'s Angelababy for the lead role in his latest film - an adaptation of the famous Wuxia novel, "Return of the Condor Heroes".
As reported on Jayne Stars website, the producer's decision to adapt the famous novel was received with backlashes from fans of author Jin Yong's works. The objection sprouted from Yu Zheng's various undesired alterations in "Swordsman" – another one of Jin Yong's masterpiece that he adapted.
Assuring fans of the original that he will not make the same mistakes in "Return of the Condor Heroes", Yu Zheng revealed that he has hoped to cast Hong Kong model Angelababy as the female lead, Little Dragon Girl.
He stated, "I hope Angelababy will play the role, but we have to see what her filming schedule is."
Yu Zheng added, "I plan to increase the number of scenes that show the main character, Yang Guo, when he is growing up. Some previous adaptations of "Return of the Condor Heroes" removed these scenes entirely, and doing so would cut out the explanation as to why Zhen Zhibing, one of the senior students of the Quanzhen Sect, falls in love with Little Dragon Girl."
However, Yu Zheng's promise to stay true to the book may not be entirely true, since he also shared that his version of Yang Guo as an evil man, whereas Little Dragon Girl will be a hot female teacher, and Huang Rong has become more like she was in the prequel novel, "Legend of the Condor Heroes".
Meanwhile, when asked about his ideal cast, Yu Zheng shared that he would like Guo Jing to be played by Hong Kong actor Dicky Cheung, and Huang Rong to be played by Taiwanese actress Alyssa Chia.
Currently the only confirmed cast member is mainland Chinese actor Chen Xiao, who will be playing Yang Guo.
