Actor Ben Wong has Raymond Lam to thank for his long-awaited leading role in a TVB drama, as the former was casted after the latter dropped out of the historical drama "Food For The Slaves".
According to Jayne Stars, 45-year-old Ben has not been in a leading role 16 years, since his leading role in 1997′s "Triumph Over Evil". Afterwards, he left TVB for better pay, only to return in 2004, and has appeared in various minor roles since.
In "Food For The Slaves", Ben plays the Yongzheng Emperor, the hardworking fifth emperor of the Manchu-led Qing Dynasty. He had already shaved his head when he appeared at a costume fitting recently.
Earlier, the "Food For The Slaves" cast was reported to be Raymond Lam, Ron Ng and Fala Chen, but it has now been replaced with Ben Wong, Wong Cho Lam and Joey Meng. Joey portrays the 25-year-old Lu Siniang in the drama.
When asked whether he will be writing the script for "Food For The Slaves", Wong Cho Lam merely joked, "Haven't I been scolded enough already [referring to the "Inbound Troubles" controversy]? This time, I will only act.
