Eric Tsang unfulfilled by CPPCC meals
Eric Tsang was rather dissatisfied while attending the Guangzhou Chinese People Political Consultative Conference. Not with the result of its work report, but for the lack of variety in its meals!
According to SCMP, the actor, who has been the member of the CPPCC since 2011, attended the government's work report meeting over the weekend, but found it "lengthy and boring".
The funny man explained that he found the speeches boring and unfair to members like himself as they did not get the chance to speak in the discussions and added that the meals were also quite "frugal".
Eric joked, "It's good that they're saving a lot of money but I'm really not full enough. The dishes are a little slow, a little cold and less lively than the old days!"
The actor referred to the party's bid to cut costs and waste – also in line with the new banquet mantra of "four dishes, one soup" whereby CPPCC members dined on four dishes: a master stock platter, taro-fried bacon, snow peas, lotus root fungus and poached chicken.
However, the frugal meal may have been a good evidence of Xi Jinping's progress in curbing over-extravagant banqueting that has been seen as a not-so applaudable tradition of Chinese politics.
